Large Kitchen
We installed pendant lighting over the eating area and lighting under the cabinets.
The work in this kitchen was extensive. Our kitchen design provided a large increase in the countertop area, including an eating area. Our kitchen floor design provided for a minimum of three feet between the granite countertops for easy traffic flow and a good work triangle. We provided the homeowner with her dream kitchen. The island is completely new, with a gas stovetop and downdraft venting. The lighting design provided for recessed lighting, pendant lighting over the island, and under counter lighting with dimmers where appropriate. This provides for a wide range of lighting for an evening romantic mood to bright work lighting. We moved this kitchen from the 1950s popcorn ceiling look to the 21st century. There were engineering challenges because the house had settled, with a drop of 2 3/4" between the highest and lowest point of the floor under the cabinets. We resolved these problems without concern to the homeowner, while keeping her involved in the visual design aspects of this kitchen remodel.
In the far corner of this kitchen there was a tall cabinet with a large door. We extended the soffitt and wrapped the cabinets and granite countertops around the corner to the refrigerator. We replaced the entire popcorn ceiling and installed recessed lighting.
We installed granite countertops and a shapely double sink in front of the small bay window. Finished it off with complementary ceramic backsplash and new switches, plugs and covers.
There was no island in the kitchen. A large granite slab provides seating for four on one side with a gas cooktop and workspace on the other. We ran the gas from the other side of the kitchen and installed a downdraft fan in the island, below the floor, with an outside exhaust.
We installed a double oven toward the left rear. There is another large granite slab over the family room divider. This kitchen remodel resulted in a happy homeowner.
